Scope was open, so the option set was generated by research rather than by listing what the brief named. Fifty-seven candidates were produced by working outward from each capability. The full set, with the capability each came from and one line of reasoning each, is at scratch/ideator-candidates.md.

Twenty-one were carried, 21 marked marginal, 15 rejected.

The rejections worth stating, because they are the ones a reader would ask about:

One candidate, dialysis and extracorporeal blood-set sensors, was reached by analogy and not researched, because the option generation reached its search ceiling. It is recorded as unexamined rather than absent.

Two further candidates were added on review, because a diff of the generated set against the capabilities the brief names showed them missing:

Continuous multi-analyte sensing beyond glucose, meaning ketone, lactate and electrolytes. This is a second electrode chemistry on the same printed film, which is MERIDIAN's existing process rather than a new one. It matters because it attaches to the one route into CGM this analysis finds credible: a challenger without a sensor plant differentiates against Abbott and Dexcom on what it can measure, not on price alone, and that is exactly where a supplier who can put another electrode on the same web is useful. It is pre-commercial today and is carried as an option on the CGM challenger route rather than as a line.

Flat-panel X-ray detector interconnect. The candidate set rejected CoF into medical on a single example, a surgical monitor, which uses the same commodity display CoF as any other panel. Digital radiography panels are a different product: readout ICs are bonded along the edges of the detector matrix at fine pitch, in a regulated supply chain. Rejecting a whole capability entry on one instance is the error the enumeration exists to catch. It remains a weak candidate, because panel volumes are in the hundreds of thousands and the incumbent suppliers are the display-chain firms MERIDIAN already competes with, but it is now rejected on its own evidence rather than by association.

Two patterns from the generation shape everything downstream.

Technical congruence and commercial size run close to inversely correlated. The candidates that fit MERIDIAN's process most exactly are the smallest, and the largest are the ones where the process is ordinary.

The highest-yielding capability is the one the three named segments use least. Roll-to-roll mass production generated 13 candidates, more than any other entry, and CGM, neurostimulation and BCI are not where it pays.
